“They have intimate knowledge of the club, how it functions, and the wants and desires of committee members. They’re so good at narrowing down the choices so it doesn’t matter what they pick—it will be good.”
THREE DECADES OF GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB DESIGN
For nearly thirty years, Thiel & Team has helped golf and country clubs plan for what’s next – creating clubhouses and experiences that strengthen membership, support operations, and remain relevant for years to come.
We know the golf and country club business from the inside out: how members actually use spaces, how operations happen behind the scenes, and how decisions made during planning and design ultimately affect member experience, revenue, and long-term performance.
And the expectations placed on clubs have changed. Golf may remain at the center of the club, but today’s members expect more from the places where they spend their time. Dining, wellness, fitness, recreation, family programming, outdoor experiences, and spaces to gather, entertain, and work have become increasingly important to multi-generational membership.
But adding more amenities isn’t the strategy. The real opportunity is understanding how the entire club works together: what members value today, where demand is heading, which investments will actually be used, and how each space can contribute to a stronger overall experience and business. That’s where nearly three decades of specialization matters.
Design that Works as Well as it Looks
Aspirational golf and country club design doesn’t stop at aesthetics. It has to perform.
At Thiel & Team, we design spaces around how a club actually works: how members move through it, how staff serves them, how food and beverage operates, how golf programming flows, and how every square foot contributes to the member experience and the business.
That means thinking beyond architecture and interiors. We look at circulation, back-of-house efficiencies, programming, revenue opportunities, and how spaces can flex throughout the day, week, and season.
The result? A club that feels exceptional to members and works harder for the business behind it.
Designed for Experience. Engineered for Yield.
Every design decision has two jobs: elevate the member experience and make the space perform.
A dining room shouldn’t sit empty outside dinner service. An event space shouldn’t have one use. A clubhouse shouldn’t be designed around how members lived ten years ago.
We create flexible, multi-use environments that respond to how members actually spend their time, while helping clubs get more value from every square foot.

WHAT WE DO
Thiel & Team’s comprehensive, turnkey golf club design solutions bring your strategic vision to life, including architecture, interior design, and procurement under one collaborative roof. That integration means fewer handoffs, less friction, and greater control over the original vision, budget, and member experience.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)
- What are other clubs doing to engage a broader demographic?
Thiel & Team is seeing a significant shift toward programming that supports the whole member experience—not just golf. Health, wellness, recreation, dining, social connections, and even the ability to work remotely are becoming increasingly important parts of club life. Today’s clubs are incorporating more robust wellness offerings such as performance and strength training, physical therapy, boutique fitness studios, recovery spaces, and elevated spa services. Healthy, convenient food and beverage options can further support these programs and create additional reasons for members to spend time at the club.
- How can golf and country club design engage members of all ages?
Different generations may use the club differently, but they don’t need entirely separate experiences. Short courses and gamified golf can make the sport more approachable. Pickleball, flexible lawns, natural play areas, outdoor dining, and casual food and beverage create additional ways to participate. The opportunity is to design spaces that adapt across generations, activities, and times of day, giving more members more reasons to belong.
- Can you reinvent a club without losing the character and traditions that make it special?
Absolutely. In fact, the best transformations start by identifying what should never change. Before deciding what’s new, we work with leadership and members to understand what gives the club its identity, from architecture and materials to artwork, traditions, and the rituals members value. Then, we build from there.
- Should a country club renovate an existing clubhouse or build a new one?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. In some cases, an existing building has good bones and can be repaired, reconfigured, modernized, and transformed. In others, the cost of addressing aging systems, structural limitations, operational inefficiencies, and outdated planning may make new construction the more responsible long-term investment. Before recommending either path, Thiel & Team believes in evaluating the building holistically. The goal isn’t simply to determine what is less expensive today. It is to understand which investment best positions the club for the next generation.
- How do you phase a country club design renovation without closing operations?
Closing the club during a major renovation isn’t an option. Thiel & Team works closely with club leadership and operations teams to understand how members and staff move through the property, which amenities must remain available, and where temporary solutions may be required. From there, construction can be strategically sequenced so portions of the club remain operational while other areas are under construction. We also consider the member experience throughout the process: arrival, circulation, dining, golf operations, events, back-of-house functions, and the inevitable moments when construction and club life intersect.
