With retro Cali vibes and refreshing outdoor breezes, this communal space was reimagined as the ultimate oasis for dining, swimming, tennis, and gathering with friends. The goal was to transform a worn-out outdoor area into a lively, inviting hub. An Airstream-turned-bar added a playful touch, turning what was once a simple Grab-N-Go spot into a vibrant area for cocktails. Inspired by 1950s Hollywood glam, the new furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) bring a sense of style fitting for a club nestled in the Los Angeles valley.

One of the biggest challenges was addressing the site’s multiple elevation changes, a common feature of California’s hilly terrain, while ensuring ADA accessibility. By incorporating exterior decking, expansive sunshades, and strategically placed ramps, we created a space that all members could enjoy. The color palette—pops of orange, lime, and turquoise—captures the sunny, joyful atmosphere.

Project Objectives:

  • Convert unused outdoor areas into communal spaces where members can relax between games or during events.
  • Create ADA-accessible restrooms and showers.
  • Enhance food and beverage options with new offerings.
  • Refresh and modernize the Tennis Proshop.

Unify different spaces and create clear ADA access while maintaining controlled site access and easy wayfinding.

The existing outdoor areas had been disjointed, exposed to the hot L.A. sun, and challenging to access due to significant elevation changes. To address these issues, we relocated the underused lounge building to serve as the new Tennis Proshop. The original Proshop was repurposed to house accessible restrooms and showers, while the space between the Proshop and the new restrooms became a covered outdoor deck that now functions as a member lounge. A “nana” wall system and Grab & Go deli counters were added, bringing much-needed food and beverage options to the Proshop. Traffic flow was redirected through ramps and clear wayfinding, ensuring seamless movement in and out of the tennis area.

To unify the look and feel of the property, existing buildings were refreshed and painted, and mismatched railings were replaced with a sleek cable railing system. Finally, an Airstream event bar and outdoor grill area were added to the deck, bringing a beer garden vibe for special events.

This transformation provided the active tennis community with a vibrant space of their own. The “Retro Cali” aesthetic combines casual fun with functional elegance, creating an ideal setting for members and their guests to relax and enjoy.
